About us

The Pattern Tales is an artistic project and lifestyle brand dedicated to the creation of literature inspired original digital prints and gifts.

Founded in 2016 by designer Chiara Aliotta and artist Spiros Baras (wife and husband), the project began out of a wish to keep the feelings alive that a story is able to create, even after the book finds its place back on the shelf.
All works are based on or inspired by different books. For each book a series of artworks is created employing the notion of pattern or repetition as the key visual element.
By creating their artworks, Chiara and Spiros discovered a new way to experience books and stories.

We believe in the discrete influence of repetition in our daily life. A book read by different people, at different times, is a story brought to life ad infinitum.

Chiara Aliotta

Chiara Aliotta is co-founder at The Pattern Tales. She loves authentic gothic tales and those involving suspense and curiosity. Her collections include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Odyssey and Mansfield Park. She holds a Masters in Communication Design and a Bachelor Degree in Product and Industrial Design, both from Politecnico di Milano’s Industrial Design Department.
Her work has been featured in different magazines and design books. She was also listed by Canva top 10 among the best 33 women doing amazing things in Graphic Design. As recognition for her stunning work as art director, Chiara received the DevelopHER Awards in the category “Eye for Design” in 2017.

Spiros Baras

Spiros has worked for different publishers and authors even before founding The Pattern Tales with Chiara. He loves metaphors and symbolism, with poems being his favourite. His reflective, calm personality perfectly matches the precise rhythm of verses. Spiros prefers grey days to sunny ones and his collections include The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. He holds a Diploma in Graphic Arts from Sivitanidios School, Athens and a Graduate certificate in Digital Culture from University of the Aegean, Syros. Spiros did intensive studies of digital fine art prints, from which the idea for The Pattern Tales began.

About the project

The Pattern Tales team is based on Syros, a beautiful Greek island in the middle of the Aegean Sea. The printing process happens in our own studio and no third parties are involved.
We use the Epson SureColor P600 printer, loaded with nine professional quality pigment-based UltraChrome HD inks. All our works are printed on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper or Awagami Bamboo Paper. We control and check everything: the depth of the colours, the temperature and also the humidity of the environment.

Considering the whole process and the time we dedicate to each print, we are not afraid to say that we create original affordable artworks and gifts of unrivalled quality and value.
